Current technology in computer processors show a trend in increasing power consumption and a decrease in size. As a result, the heat density of processors is increasing and will continue to increase due to ever changing technology. Given such high heat densities, air cooling is no longer an effective means of removing heat for these devices, simply because its thermal properties are inadequate.
Liquid cooling is the most efficient technique for high heat removal. However, with the use of current liquid cooling technologies, hydraulic resistance is high, limiting the effectiveness of liquid cooled heat dissipation devices.
The goal of this project is to develop a high performance heat dissipation device that maintains a low hydraulic resistance.
